Layoff Resources

Monday November 17, 2008

Last week the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported employers initiated 1,330 mass layoff events during the third quarter of 2008 that resulted in the separation of 218,158 workers from their jobs. Just this month we've heard about DHL, La-Z-Boy, Mattel, Circuit City and a slew of other companies cutting their workforce.

Although you've worked hard to reduce retail business expenses, you may find yourself in the same position as the companies mentioned above. Unfortunately, slow sales and layoffs are a reality for many employers during economic downturns. So how does an employer approach layoffs? I've gathered some helpful resources from other About.com Guides for information on the subject.

How's your retail store doing? If you have cut hours or are considering laying off workers, share your story with us.
