Cash Register vs. POS System

Friday August 11, 2006

I may be giving away my age when I say that I can recall going into small shops, buying merchandise and waiting on the cashier to hand write the sales slip. He or she would then add the total with a 10-key adding machine and place the money in a locked drawer under the counter. Do any of you remember those days? Can you imagine manually writing up sales like that in this day and age? I can't!

The one item in a retail store a business owner can't do without is the cash register. Whether it's the traditional, electronic cash management system or an elaborate computerized point of sale (POS) system, every store needs a machine to process sales. But which is better?

BTW, I myself am not a business owner, but just as customer I certainly appreciate the performance of the modern cash registers. On the other hand as cash register enthusiast I prefer the stunning antique ones! ;-)
