Establishing Store Policies

Tuesday April 25, 2006
When we first opened our store, we tried to be prepared to handle any situation that arose. We knew how to handle returns, what hours our store would open and even trained the employees on how to take checks from customers. However, one day a customer asked if we had a layaway plan. I proudly responded that we did but when he asked about the terms of our policy, I was mortified to realize that was an area we never fully outlined. Taking the time to thoroughly plan a procedures manual and set store policies before you open your doors, can save you the embarrassment we experienced.
